The University of Queensland hosted a one day long Rare Earth Symposium on May 31, 2013. The event consisted of presentations by leading researchers, followed by a workshop designed to generate new research ideas.
The attendees included academic researchers, policy makers and industry leaders.
Th attendees were split into four groups (each with the aim of identifying five issues):
- International Governance and Security Concerns
- Industrial Ecology
- Perceived and Real Nuclear Risk and Social Conflict
- Economic Aspects
These twenty issues will now be pursued by the Rare Earth Minerals Consortium in order to improve the sustainable extraction and application of Rare Earth Metals.
